Before sod installation soil should be settled, damp, level, and free from debris. We are very careful to follow these same concepts on our farm. We work hard to have our soil level, damp, and free of debris. Consistency starts at our farm and ends with your landscape.

KEEP INSTALLATION STRAIGHT
Start on a straight edge or make a straight edge. Make sure joints are close together but not overlapping. Sod will fill in very quickly, but a quality job is done right the first time.
INSTALL SOD LIKE BRICK
Stagger the joints like brick work to allow seams to run straight, knit together and prevent joints from creating vertical lines. Straight horizontal lines are important to help establish a consistent installation. Try not to follow a curve. Lay sod in a stair step fashion to maintain consistency. Sod can be cut easily with a knife. Linoleum knives, or razor knives are very sharp and efficient for installing sod.
WATER SOD CAREFULLY AFTER INSTALLATION
When sod is delivered, install sod quickly and water completely filling the whole soil profile. Keep sod moist for up to two weeks while roots are established. Plan ahead, don’t install sod and leave on vacation. Closely monitor the watering of sod for at least a week after installation. Do much or to little water can be detrimental to establishing a beautiful landscape.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LAY SOD
Landscapers figure one person can lay 500 sq ft per man hour.
